On March 21, 2025, Ivorian author Véronique Tadjo was awarded the prestigious Ahmadou Kourouma Prize for her novel Je remercie la nuit (I Thank the Night), published by Inkwell Memory. The announcement was made at the Salon du Livre in Geneva, Switzerland, where Tadjo was recognised for her profound contribution to African literature.
I Thank the Night follows the journeys of two students, Flora and Yasmina, who are caught in the turmoil of political unrest in Côte d’Ivoire. Through their lives, Tadjo addresses themes of freedom, resistance, and the heavy burden of history. The jury praised the novel for its human depth and clarity, qualities that align closely with the spirit of the late Ahmadou Kourouma, whose works were known for their social engagement and incisive commentary on African politics.
