Yaoundé, Cameroon — On January 29, 2025, Priscille Ngongang Djamfa successfully defended her doctoral thesis entitled “Some Sociological Uses of Publishing in Cameroon, from Books to the Written Press.” Supervised by Professor Laurent-Charles Boyomo Assala, this research investigates the transformations occurring within the Cameroonian publishing sector under the growing influence of digital technology. The study focuses on the convergence of editorial practices in book publishing and the written press—two fields traditionally seen as distinct—that are now increasingly merging and evolving in the digital age.

Djamfa’s thesis identifies two key dynamics reshaping the sector: hybridisation, which refers to the blending of book and press practices enabled by digital tools; and dispersion, which captures the spread of these practices across various digital platforms. These shifts illustrate that digital technology not only redefines tools but also restructures the very processes of content production, distribution, and consumption. It influences professional routines, formats, and editorial approaches.
