Dakar, Senegal — On 17 and 18 April 2025, Dakar hosted the inaugural edition of Senegal’s Rentrée Littéraire, a new literary event aimed at elevating the country’s publishing sector and reaffirming the central place of literature in its cultural life. Organised by the Senegalese Publishers Association (ASE), the gathering took place at the Maison de la Culture Douta Seck, under the official patronage of the President of the Republic — a gesture that underscored the government’s stated commitment to the arts.
Held under the theme “Literary Sovereignty: Possibilities and Perspectives”, the two-day programme brought together writers, publishers, academics, and policymakers to explore the role of literature in shaping national identity and preserving collective memory.
